Welcome to the second conversation in our Women in Business chapter – part of our ‘Join the Conversation’ series: five events that bring you important conversations led by Women in Business and heard by everyone. In partnership with Forsyth Barr, this bar-setting series is bringing hard-hitting topics into the conversational spotlight.

This conversation will address the true impacts of Aotearoa’s shocking (and growing) gender and ethnic pay gaps. Led by a formidable consultant and former Chief Executive, this conversation will dive into what we can all do to make practical changes to this status quo.

Why be part of this conversation?

For every $1.00 earned by a Pākehā man, a pākehā woman earns $0.89. If you’re a Māori, Pasifika or Asian man or woman, it’s even worse. But it doesn’t have to be like this, and sometimes we don’t even realise that we’re keeping the problem alive.

In this conversation, Jo Cribb will break down what these gender and ethnic pay gaps are, how they impact you and the role we can all play in shrinking them. Money is often a taboo topic that we struggle to talk about, but Jo has practical tips and strategies on how you can learn your value and negotiate for better conditions.

Who’s the speaker?

Jo Cribb is a deeply experienced consultant and became one of the youngest ever appointed Chief Executives in the Public Service when she led the Ministry for Women. Jo has been recognised as a finalist in the 2016 New Zealand Women of Influence Awards, and has also won the Women in Governance Community Award.

Some of her most recent work included evaluating SportNZ’s gender equity governance policies, working with the Defence Force’s leadership team on gender diversity in the forces, and completing a gender analysis of immigration policy. Jo is also a distiller of her own gin, so she knows a thing or two about making hard-to-swallow stuff go down easy.

What’s in-store:

  • 12:00 - 12:30pm – Networking and standing lunch
  • 12:30 - 1:15pm – Jo Cribb speaks
  • 1:15 - 1:30pm – Q&A

The gender and ethnic pay gap is one of the largest issues confronting modern society, so don’t miss the opportunity to join the conversation that employers and employees alike need to have on changing it.

This event is part of the Women in Business chapter from our “Join the Conversation” series - five events that spotlight important topics through conversation, led by the amazing women driving change within them.
